Soap icon Susan Lucci will receive the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award

An Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award has been a long time coming for Susan Lucci, who has been a favorite in the soap opera world for decades. Lucy is best known for playing fan-favorite character Erica Kane on the daytime drama “All My Children”, a role she maintained throughout the show’s entire 41 years.

Despite her consistent contributions to one of TV’s most popular soaps, the actor failed to score an Emmy win year after year until she won Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1999 on her 19th nomination. Television win with presenter Shemar Moore was a memorable moment in Emmy history announcement of, “The streak is over!” followed by thunderous applause (and a few tears) from the audience.

Lucy’s struggle to score an Emmy win for so long makes the Lifetime Achievement Award extra special for the “All My Children” alum. In addition to his pair of hard-earned Emmys, the soap veteran has garnered numerous other honors over his long career, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a People’s Choice Award.
