Jasper Jacks eventually goes in search of an iconic deck of cards called the Dead Man’s Hand, which his father, John Jacks (Peter Renade), attributed to all his good fortune. He met Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), who was also hunting for Deck, and the two became involved. Eventually, Sam became pregnant with Sonny Corinthos’ child, so Jax left her. Jax later dated Sonny’s sister, Courtney Matthews (Alicia Leigh Willis), but their relationship fell apart when she became pregnant with Nikolas Cassadine’s (then Tyler Christopher) child.
Jax then becomes involved with Sonny’s ex-wife Carly Spencer (Laura Wright). They become engaged, but Jax briefly leaves town to find that Carly has remarried Sonny, prompting him to fire Luis’ brother, the villainous Lorenzo Alcazar (Ted King). He will not have to testify against him. Carly later divorces him and returns to Jax. She became pregnant by Jacques but eventually lost the baby due to an explosion caused by mobster Claudia Zacchara (Sarah Brown). Although Carly cheated on Sonny with Jax, they would later sort things out and they had a daughter named Jocelyn Jax.
However, when it is revealed that Jax knew about his evil brother Jerry Jacks (then Sebastian Roche) having shot Carly and Sonny’s son Michael Corinthos (then Dylan Cash), she leaves him. In retaliation, Sonny later framed Jax for a crime, causing Brenda to leave him again. He then threatens Jax with a gun to get Brenda away.
