ChatGPT Plus is a subscription model that gives you access to a completely different service based on GPT-4 with faster speeds and more reliable access.
What is ChatGPT Plus?
Details about ChatGPT Plus had been surfacing from insiders for weeks, but the official news finally came out on February 1st, 2023 Via a blog post from OpenAIThe company behind the popular Generative Text AI.
“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so that we could learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of the system and collect user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations,” the blog post said. “Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several significant updates, and we’ve seen a range of business use cases arise, including drafting and editing user content, brainstorming, programming assistance, and learning new find value in Subject.”
Like the standard version of ChatGPT, ChatGPT Plus is an AI chatbot, and it provides a highly accurate machine learning assistant that is capable of natural language “chat”. This is the latest version of the chatbot currently available.
How much is it worth?
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month, which is a lot less than it’s rumored to cost. Of course, there exists a free version of ChatGPT, so going forward, using the service will not require payment.
However, we have to see how long OpenAI maintains this value. Some reports indicate that it may cost as much as $700,000 per day to operate, but again, we do not know how many customers ChatGPT Plus currently has.
What is included in ChatGPT Plus?
When ChatGPT launched, it was described as providing access to three distinctive features:
- General access to ChatGPT even during peak hours
- fast response time
- Priority access to new features and improvements
Getting access to ChatGPT during peak hours is the most obvious major benefit of paying for ChatGPT Plus. Together Some people have to wait hours to get in, which alone should ensure the popularity of the subscription model. The idea of getting first access to new features and improvements is also interesting, even if what those new features will be remains a mystery.
However, it’s much more than just jumping to the front of the line. ChatGPT Plus officially supports GPT-4, which is it’s latest Large Language Model (LLM), which can greatly extend the standard ChatGPT that uses GPT-3.5. According to OpenAI, GPT-4 provides 40% more factual responses, and is a more robust collaborative tool for creative work. In many ways, we are still discovering how much more powerful GPT-3.5 is than GPT-4, but some believe it also hints at the first sparks of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence).
Other key features added via GPT-4 are the ability to receive visual input instead of just text, much longer text input and output, and access to data retrieved from the Internet before 2022. Specifically, GPT-4 has a massive 25,000-bit of data. Word limit compared to ChatGPT’s 3,000.

Why does OpenAI want to pay you?
ChatGPT has a high operating cost — for hosting, maintenance, hardware upgrades, updates, Satisfying its investors etc. – while its accessibility to a large user base due to its popularity and speed is in urgent need of improvement. Some estimates place the cost of daily running at $100,000, or up to $3 million per month! The premium subscription should help cover the server upgrade.
It’s safe to assume that a premium tier will let OpenAI handle bandwidth issues, especially during peak times of the day.
Can I subscribe to ChatGPT Plus now?
Yes. ChatGPT Plus was initially launched in an Early Access phase, invite only through a waiting list. But now, you can simply upgrade your account to ChatGPT Plus by clicking on “Upgrade to Plus” at the bottom of the sidebar.
As an alternative, you can check out some of GPT-4’s offerings by using Bing Chat, which also uses GPT-4 as the basis for its chat.
Future of ChatGPT Plus
OpenAI is already working on the next versions of its LLM – specifically GPT-4.5. We don’t know much about this updated model except that it will build on the foundation laid by the GPT-4. OpenAI has suggested in the past that GPT-4.5 may have finished training and be ready to go by September or October of this year.
It looks like GPT-4.5 will be released for ChatGPT Plus customers, but we don’t yet know how the company plans to roll out new versions of its chatbot.
