Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores introduces a new playground for you to explore in the form of post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. It comes with some new machines for Aloy to fight in this lava-stricken L.A. wasteland. Stingspawn is one of the new threats you’ll have to face in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
Stingspawn are tiny machines that can hatch out of eggs and cause significant damage to Alloy. The best strategy to get rid of their eggs is to either use Aloy’s trusty Spear or shoot them from a distance. Stingspawn may appear timid, but are quite agile and can easily swarm you in large numbers if not dealt with quickly.
Dealing with stingspawn and their eggs in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores introduces new threats in the form of Bilegut, Stingspawn, and many other machines. You’ll encounter stingspawn very early in this latest expansion, specifically during the ‘To the Burning Shores’ main quest. While Aloy tags along with Seika, you’ll encounter strange growths on your way to the main objective.
It serves as an introduction to a new little flying machine called the Stingspawn. They may seem harmless because of their small size but acids on alloys are capable of causing elemental damage. They can either be spawned from eggs scattered around the open world in Horizon Forbidden West: The Burning Shore or created by a new machine called Bylgut that resembles a frog.
You’ll mostly come across clusters of stingspawn eggs during your travels. You can use Aloy’s Spear to destroy them by resorting to quick attacks. However, there is a possibility that the egg will hatch and spawn a stingspawn that will start attacking you on sight.
You can also use the spear heavy attack which is capable of dealing damage to multiple eggs at once. Heavy attacks have a longer winding time, so you must follow it up with quick attacks to deplete the remaining amount of health of the egg. You must be careful though as some eggs may explode in the middle of the attack, which you will need to avoid in time.
Alternatively, you can use any bow of your choice to shoot at them from a distance. Even though normal arrows can damage eggs, it is ideal to use shock arrows to rapidly deplete their health. The presence of these eggs in an area indicates the presence of Bilegut or more Stingspawn machines in the vicinity that may attack you on sight.
If you’re playing on the higher difficulty settings, it’s recommended to use Aloy’s acid-resistant outfits and use Shock Arrows as much as possible to easily defeat the swarm. Shooting at their glowing spot in front is liable to take them down fast.
Remember that stingspawn cannot be turned into an ally by using Spear’s overriding abilities. Therefore, you can either destroy the stingspawn or completely ignore them by avoiding the eggs or their patrol path.
You can also find stingspawn eggs during the Cauldron Theta quest. Feel free to use this guide on how to access Cauldron Theta in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
